'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC On This Day - June 22nd

A look back at what happened on this day June 22nd in the recent history of Leeds United.

Leeds have never played a game on this day in their history, so today we look back in the Vital Leeds archives of the last few years to see what was being reported.

Birthdays
1981 Stephen Crainey (33)

2007
Leeds trip to Bristol Rovers on Saturday 15th September is moved to Friday 14th September.

2009
Leeds United have arranged a new fixture to replace the Darlington game which was called off last week after the two clubs were drawn against each other in the Carling Cup.

Leeds will now travel to League Two club Grimsby Town on July 21st with a 7.45pm kick off.

The Whites are also travelling to Wealdstone on the same evening.

The pre season fixture list is now almost with finalised with only the Shelbourne date yet to be finalised, the date for this will be announced this week when the draws for the European competitions take place.

2011
Leeds trip to Derby County on Boxing Day will now kick off at 1pm at the request of the Police.

The two sides met on a Tuesday evening last season with Leeds selling out their allocation of close to 4,000 tickets.

It is the first game in the forthcoming season to be moved on Police advice

Leeds United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is to open contract talks with Leicester City in the next few days according to his agent Tony Lymn.

Schmeichel was told on Monday by Leeds that they had accepted a bid from Leicester, much to the keeper`s surprise, who admitted in a statement on twitter he was looking forward to helping Leeds push for promotion next season.

Now that the player and his agent know the situation, negotiations with Leicester can begin. Lymn speaking in the Leicester Mercury said, 'We will probably open a dialogue with Leicester in the next few days.'

Lymn now expects other clubs to become involved now that they know that Schmeichel is available, 'We are aware there will be interest because he is a good player. We must now consider what to do and think it through,' he continued.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson has said that Leeds have already agreed a deal to bring in a goalkeeper, but with them currently without a recognised goalkeeper, having already released Shane Higgs this summer it`s not known whether he is a replacement for Schmeichel or Higgs.

Vital Leeds is now available on both facebook and twitter, so if you are that way inclined and more importantly understand all this new fangled dangled stuff, feel free to watch us, poke us or whatever else you are meant to do there!
