Carbone - Leeds planning pre-season trip to Italy

New Leeds United football consultant Benito Carbone says the players will be reporting back to the club next week before returning to their holidays as the club still put the finishing touches to their pre-season programme.

New owner Massimo Cellino stated earlier this month that the players were only entitled to five weeks break during the summer and he wanted them back in for pre-season training on June 2nd.

Reports earlier this week suggested Cellino would be ordering the players to attend a boot camp ahead of the new season but it now seems the Italian owner wants to speak to the members of the squad before allowing them to continue their break according to Carbone.

Speaking to Sports reporter Simon Austin, Carbone said, 'The chairman wants to talk face to face with every player and understand whether they want to stay here.

'I think the players will stay here maybe two or three days and then maybe go back on holiday for another two, three weeks, and be ready to go on pre-season."

Leeds have yet to announce their plans for pre-season but it looks most likely now that they will be travelling to the homeland of both Cellino and Carbone and not the preferred destination of Slovenia, where manager Brian McDermott has taken both previous club Reading and Leeds in the last three summers. 'We have the idea to go on pre-season somewhere in Italy. I don`t know where exactly at the moment,' continued Carbone.
