LUFC Ashdown - Club showed a lack or respect

Released Leeds United goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown says the club showed a lack of respect after receiving official confirmation he had been released by Leeds the day after it was made public knowledge.

Leeds announced their released list last Friday with Ashdown amongst the players not being offered a new deal but he says he did not get official confirmation until the following day, something that has left him disappointed.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post , Ashdown said, "It would have been nice for someone to tell me what was going on. I was expecting to get released and there`s no bitterness or anything like that, but it was the way it was done.

"A bit of respect is all you need.

"Every player wants that, no matter what contribution they have made to the club. You want to be treated similar.

"I got a letter a day after everyone else and that was my only gripe."

Ashdown spent two seasons at Elland Road following his arrival from Portsmouth in the summer of 2012. The 33-year-old made just eight appearances for Leeds during his time at Elland Road with him missing this season with a toe injury. All his appearances for Leeds came in the cup as former boss Neil Warnock preferred to use Paddy Kenny in the league. Ashdown helped Leeds reach the League Cup quarter-final, as well as the FA Cup fifth round.

Ashdown was one of seven senior players released by Leeds last week with Michael Brown, El Hadji Diouf, Adam Drury, Paul Green, Danny Pugh and Luke Varney also being released.
