LUFC Young keeper looking for Euro glory

Young Leeds United academy goalkeeper Eric Grimes has been included in the Republic of Ireland squad for their upcoming under-19`s European Championship qualifiers.

Grimes featured for Ireland in their friendly with a strong Mexican under-20`s side on Tuesday as they went down to a 3-0 defeat. Ireland played Mexico again on Thursday as Grimes watched from the sidelines as they went down to a 2-0 defeat.

Ireland boss Paul Doolin named his squad for the elite qualifying round on Friday with Grimes included and the young Leeds academy product will now hope to help Ireland reach the finals later this summer as they come up against Iceland, Turkey and Serbia.

Ireland have home advantage with the group games taking place in Ireland and they start off against Iceland on May 28th. Turkey are next up for Ireland on May 30th before they finish the group with a game against current holders Serbia on June 2nd. Only the group winners will qualify for the finals that take place in Hungary during July.

Elsewhere, Leeds young midfielder Lewis Cook was an unused substitute on Thursday, as England had to settle for the runners-up spot in their final group game of the European under-17 championships. England lost 2-0 to Holland, who won the group with the win, and England will now face Portugal on Sunday evening for a place in the final.
