LUFC Young defender Wembley bound

LUFC Young defender Wembley bound

Young Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor is one game away from celebrating a good few weeks.

The 20-year-old product of the Leeds United academy has been offered a new deal by the club this week and he can now look forward to a trip to Wembley after helping Fleetwood Town, where he has spent the season on loan, into the League Two play-off final.

Fleetwood booked their place in the final against either Southend United or Burton Albion on Monday May 26th with a 0-0 second leg draw against York City to go through 1-0 on aggregate.

Despite being under pressure for much of the second leg, Fleetwood held out against York, who are managed by former Leeds defender Nigel Worthington.

Taylor has earned rave reviews during his time with Fleetwood this season and his appearance in the second leg was his 41st appearance of the season for the club. He came close to scoring the only goal of the game late on when his shot from the edge of the area just went wide.

The young left back will hope the experience at Fleetwood will see him pushing for a regular place in the Leeds side in the future having made four appearances for the club since making his debut against Bradford City in 2011 when just 17-year-old.

Taylor went on to make four appearances during his first season with the first team at Leeds and he set up Ross McCormack for the opening goal in his first championship start against Crystal Palace a week before his 18th birthday in September 2011.

His chances at Leeds have been limited, he hasn`t featured since the game with Peterborough United in April 2012, and his lack of first team opportunities has seen him spend time away from Elland Road with four different clubs.

Taylor had a short spell with Bradford City in his first year as a professional before spending time at York City and Scottish Premier League side Inverness Caledonian Thistle the following season.

He will now hope to finish off his successful loan spell with Fleetwood, who finished fourth in League Two, with a Wembley win before returning to Leeds where he has reportedly agreed a new three-year deal.
