LUFC Cook helps England reach last four

Young Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook started for England as the under-17s national side booked their place in the last four of the European Championships in Malta.

Cook completed the 90 minutes as England came from a goal down to beat Turkey 4-1 in their second group game.

England were behind on 14 minutes when Enes Unal fired home just a minute after he saw his penalty saved by Newcastle United goalkeeper Fred Woodman.

Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke pulled England level seven minutes later and the game shifted in England`s favour just before the break when Turkey were reduced to ten men after Hasan Özkan picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Cook.

England took full advantage in the second half and Solanke scored his second of the game within five minutes of the restart.

Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny added a third before Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong scored a fourth just past the hour.

With Holland beating Malta in the other Group A game, they will now play each other in the final group game on Thursday to see who finishes top of the group. England will qualify as group winners if the game is drawn.

In Group B, Portugal booked their place in the last four with a win over Switzerland whilst Scotland moved into the second qualifying place with one game remaining with a 1-0 win over Germany.

A draw for Scotland in their final game against Switzerland will be enough to see them qualify.

Cook has now won 10 caps for the under-17s since making his debut against Portugal in August and he will be hoping to add another three as England look to reach the final on May 21st.
