LUFC McCormack desperate to reach landmark

Leeds United striker Ross McCormack has admitted he will be gutted if he fails to reach the 30-goal mark for the season.

The Championship`s leading goalscorer must net at least once on Saturday in the final home game of the season against Derby County to reach 30-goals for the season, and he needs two if he is to complete it in the championship.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , McCormack said, "I won`t be happy if I don`t get there, especially because I`ve missed a few penalties.

"They would have taken me up to both marks - 30 goals for the season and 30 league goals too.

"It`s been playing on my mind a bit and I`d be lying if I said it wasn`t. It`s been done very rarely here. But if I don`t get 30 then I`ve still got 29 and for me that`s a good return - probably more than I expected to score.

"I`d be a bit gutted if it doesn`t happen but if we win on Saturday and finish off with four wins from five games then that`s far more important in the grand scheme."

Two goals on Saturday for McCormack will make him one of only three players to reach 30 league goals for the season at Leeds. Tom Jennings, 36 in 1926/27 and John Charles 42 in 1953/54 and 36 in 1956/57 are the only other Leeds players to break the thirty-goal barrier in the clubs history.

McCormack looks almost guaranteed to pick up the golden boot in the championship with his nearest rival Jordan Rhodes at Blackburn Rovers, four goals behind the Leeds striker.
