Leeds United captain and goalscoring talisman Ross McCormack says he is keen to extend his current deal at Elland Road.
The Scottish international striker scored his 29th goal of the season in the 1-0 win at Barnsley at the weekend and there is already plenty of speculation linking him with a host of Premier League clubs but McCormack says he would sign a new deal at Leeds, as he wants to take the club forward under new owner Massimo Cellino.
Speaking to LUTV, McCormack said, "I`ve got a couple of years left on my contract and whether the new owner wants me to extend that or whatever, that`s up to him. If he puts a contract in front of me to sign, I`ll be part of this new regime and hopefully take the club forward.
"If it isn`t to be, I will have to look at other things."
McCormack is the clubs highest appearance maker of the current squad since his arrival at Leeds from Cardiff City in August 2010. His appearance at Barnsley on Saturday was his 155th appearance for the Leeds as he scored his 58th goal.
The 27-year-old only signed a new four-year deal with the club last summer after Leeds turned down three bids from Middlesbrough. McCormack enjoyed a productive first half of the season scoring 18-goals before the turn of the year and there was more interest shown in January with West Ham United, Cardiff City and Middlesbrough all reported to have had bids turned down by the club.
With a number of clubs already being linked with a move for McCormack in the summer, Leeds will need to show their own ambitions under new owner Massimo Cellino by holding onto McCormack as they looked to build a squad good enough to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League.
