McDermott - There is bound to be interest in Ross

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott admits there will be lots of interest in striker Ross McCormack in the summer.

The championships leading goalscorer with 27 goals this season has remained at Elland Road despite a number of clubs chasing the Scottish international striker.

Leeds turned down three bids from Middlesbrough last summer before he agreed a new deal at Elland Road and the January transfer window saw them knock back offers from both West Ham United and his former club Cardiff City.

There is already a host of clubs being linked with McCormack when the season ends with newly promoted Leicester City as well as Fulham, Queens Park Rangers, Crystal Palace and West Ham United already reported to be lining up a bid for the 27-year-old.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of the game with Barnsley this weekend, McDermott said, "He is the top goalscorer in the championship, so I am sure there will be interest."

McCormack is enjoying his best ever season in front of goal having notched 28 goals in all competitions and he will be desperate to join a small and exclusive club of players to reach 30 league goals in a season at Leeds United, needing three more in the last four games of the season. "I would love to see him score three goals on Saturday. He has 27-goals this season and that is some achievement," continued McDermott.

Tom Jennings, 36 in 1926/27 and John Charles 42 in 1953/54 and 36 in 1956/57 are the only other Leeds players to break the thirty-goal barrier in the clubs history.

Jermaine Beckford was the last Leeds player to break the 30-goal barrier in all competitions when he scored 34 in the 2008/09 season.

McCormack looked well set to go through the 30-goal barrier in March when he scored in four consecutive games but he has now failed to score in his last four games and he will be hoping to get back on the goal trail at Barnsley this afternoon.
