Gibbs - Leeds looking to end season on a high
Leeds United assistant manager Nigel Gibbs says the side want to finish the season strongly and build on the win over Blackpool last weekend.
Leeds 2-0 win against Blackpool thanks to two goals from Luke Murphy ended a run of five straight defeats and with their future in the championship next season almost guaranteed, Gibbs says they now want to put a run together until the end of the season.
Speaking on the Leeds United official website , Gibbs said, "I think everyone knew the importance of the game. It wasn`t a nice run that we were on. It is now about consistency and finishing the season strongly. "We have said to the boys that we want to build on the Blackpool result.
"We want to finish the season as strong as we can and we`ll be looking to win every game. It is not always possible but we have to keep putting in performances like we did on Saturday.'
Leeds travel to a buoyant Barnsley side on Saturday who did their own chances of avoiding relegation the world of good on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win at Charlton Athletic. Barnsley, who have been a bogey side to Leeds at Oakwell in recent seasons, now know a win could lift them out of the relegation places.
Nottingham Forest are next up for Leeds at Elland Road on Easter Monday. Forest are currently under the temporary stewardship of Gary Brazil after Billy Davies was sacked recently following a poor run of results and they now look set to miss out on the play-offs..
The last away game of the season is at Birmingham City, who are far from safe in the championship and that is down to their terrible home form that has seen them not win at St Andrews since early October.
Leeds finish the season at Elland Road against Derby County, who will almost certainly be preparing for the play-offs.
