'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC Leeds youngster aiming for Euro finals

Young Leeds United academy player Lewis Cook says it would be the pinnacle of his career so far if he can help the England under-17 side reach the European championship finals this summer.

The midfielder has just been away with the England squad, as they took part in the Algarve tournament in Portugal and he is now hoping he will be included in the squad that travel to the Czech Republic later this month for the final round of qualification ahead of the finals in Malta in July.

England face hosts Czech Republic, as well as Albania and Italy in their group with just the winners qualifying for the eight-team tournament finals in July.

Cook has been a regular in the squad this season and he is now hoping his hard work at Leeds and with England will see them qualify.

Speaking on the FA Website , Cook said, 'It's brilliant playing for England and everyone is ready now to try and get the wins needed in Czech Republic.

'It would mean everything to me to help my country qualify for the European Championship.

'All the hard work I've put in at my club and with England will have been worthwhile and it would be the pinnacle of my career so far to be involved.'

Cook featured in all three games for England in Portugal as they faced Holland, Portugal and Germany in the four-team tournament.

He started the 2-0 win over Holland in the opening game before coming off the bench in the 2-2 draw against Portugal. Cook started again in the final game as they lost 1-0 to Germany, who won the tournament with a winner just eight minutes from time.

Having already represented England at under-16 level, he has now made six appearances for the under-17 squad since making his debut against Portugal in August 2013.
