LUFC Middlesbrough v Leeds United - Over The Years

Vital Leeds looks at the head-to-head record between Middlesbrough and Leeds United on Teesside over the years.

The two sides have met on 45 occasions at Middlesbrough with the home side winning 19, Leeds have won 11 and 15 have been drawn.

Ten of the last eighteen games at Middlesbrough have ended in a draw, with Leeds losing just three.

The first ever meeting between the two clubs came in a FA Cup Third Round clash during the 1925/26. Leeds had just a John Armand penalty to shout about in a 5-1 defeat.

Leeds enjoyed their first win their in the 1932/33 season at the fourth attempt. A Charlie Keetley goal was enough in a 1-0 win.

Middlesbrough enjoyed their biggest win in an FA Cup clash during the 1945/46 season. At the time the FA Cup first round was played over two legs and after the first game at Elland Road was drawn 4-4 Middlesbrough won the second leg 7-2.

Leeds have won 3-1 on two occasions during the 1961/62 and the 1963/64 seasons.

In 1961/62, the Leeds goals came from Derek Mayers, Billy Bremner and Jack Charlton.

In 63/64 Leeds goals came from Johnny Giles, Ian Lawson and Alan Peacock as Leeds stormed to the Second Division title.

Leeds have visited Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on eleven occasions and they lost for the first time when they visited last season.

Curtis Main scored the only goal of the game for Middlesbrough with less than ten minutes remaining before the striker was sent off a few minutes later. Despite playing the final minutes against ten men, Leeds couldn`t preserve their unbeaten record at the Riverside.

Leeds have won four and the other six games have been drawn at the Riverside.
