LUFC Gibbs - It was a fantastic performance

Leeds United assistant manager Nigel Gibbs says it was a fantastic performance as they put their off-field problems behind them with a 5-1 local derby win against Huddersfield Town.

Gibbs was asked to take charge of the team less than three hours before kick-off with the mystery surrounding the sacking of manager Brian McDermott still unclear and Gibbs said the three points were the most important thing on the day.

Speaking after the game, Gibbs said, "We got the right result with a fantastic performance but it was an unusual day.

"I learnt I was in charge at 12.15pm. I was coming to the game anyway because I had not had contact from the club.

"David Haigh phoned and asked me to take the team along with Neil (Redfearn) assisting me.

"The most important thing today was a performance from the boys and the three points."

Leeds won for the first time in nine games as Ross McCormack bagged his second hat-trick of the season and there were first goals for the club by Jimmy Kebe and Alex Mowatt.

Must be really hard for Gibbs and Redfearn as well who must of got up on Saturday morning not knowing if they had a job or not.

I wouldn't say it was fantastic. They could have easily have been two or three up before we scored.
