LUFC Leeds v Ipswich - Over The Years

LUFC Leeds v Ipswich - Over The Years

Vital Leeds looks at the head-to-head record between Leeds United and Ipswich Town at Elland Road.

The two sides have met on 35 previous occasions with Leeds winning 18, Ipswich 7 and 10 draws.

Leeds have won just five of the last fourteen encounters at Elland Road since 1988 although they have won the last two.

The first encounter between the two sides came during the 1954/55 season when Leeds won 4-1 thanks to two goals each from Harold Brook and Peter Vickers.

Ipswich enjoyed their first win on their next visit to Elland Road during the 1960/61 season when they won 5-2, which remains their highest win at Elland Road.

The two sides met on the penultimate day of the 2006/07 season with Leeds desperate for a win to have any hope of avoiding relegation from the Championship.

Richard Creswell gave Leeds early hope when he opened the scoring on twelve minutes but with just two minutes remaining Alan Lee equalised for Ipswich, a result that just about condemned Leeds to life in League One.

Leeds best win came during the 1994/95 season when Tony Yeboah scored a hat trick and a goal from Gary Speed helped Leeds to a 4-0 win.

The two sides have met in the last two seasons since Leeds returned to the Championship.

In the 2010/11 season, the two sides shared the points in an uneventful 0-0 draw.

In 2011/12, Leeds ran out 3-1 winners in an eventful game. Andy Drury had given the visitors a first half lead but the game was turned on its head in the last twenty minutes.

Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy had been starring in the Leeds goal only a month earlier and now he was in goal for Ipswich. He was sent off after 71 minutes for handling the ball outside the area and within ten minutes, Leeds were ahead thanks to goals from Robert Snodgrass and Ross McCormack. Luciano Becchio scored a third in stoppage time to add insult to injury.

Last season, goals from Jerome Thomas and Paul Green earned Leeds a 2-0 win.
