'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC Midfielder to give McDermott welcome boost

Leeds United midfielder Paul Green looks set to give boss Brian McDermott a boost as he returns to training next week after an hamstring injury.

Green hasn`t played since suffering a hamstring injury whilst away on international duty with Eire in November.

Speaking in the Irish independent , Green said, 'I had a little niggle with my hamstring, probably wear and tear and after I returned from Poland, I pulled myself out of the Leeds squad to get it right.

'I haven't played for a while and it's doing my head in, but I'm back training on Monday and hopefully I'll get a reserves game and then straight away be back in contention.'

Green hasn`t played for Leeds since early October, his last appearance coming in the defeat at Derby County.

The midfielder had been a regular in McDermott`s side before the defeat to Derby but he was dropped to the bench after a run of poor performances.

Despite being left out by Leeds, he was included in the Eire squad for their friendlies with Latvia and Poland in November.

He came off the bench against Latvia before starting the draw in Poland.

Green is now hoping to get his season back on track at Elland Road and despite Leeds heavy defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, they remain on the fringes of the play-off places. The midfielder wants to play his part having been reassured he is still in the plans of McDermott. Green will also hope to impress new Ireland boss Martin O`Neill, who has been appointed as their new boss since he suffered his injury in November. 'The second half of the season is an exciting time. Everyone is fighting for points, either for promotion or play-off positions or to avoid relegation, so it's a good time to be playing in the games.

'The manager has told me I'm in his plans, and I want to be playing so that Martin and Roy (Keane) can have a look at me,"
continued Green.

The 30-year-old, who joined Leeds from Derby in the summer of 2012, is out of contract at Elland Road in the summer.
