McDermott - Looking for squad to make an impact

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott is looking for all his squad to play their part during the busy festive period.

Leeds face three games in the next six days starting with the trip to Blackpool this evening and McDermott, who has generally stuck with the same side during Leeds good run since October, says he is ready to utilise his squad.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , McDermott said, "It`s a tough spell and this is a period where you need all of your players.

"It`s why you have a squad and why you need the squad to be strong enough to cope with the games because they come at you so quickly.

"We`ve got players who are ready for a game and wanting to play. Look at Tongey. He came on against Barnsley and made a difference. That`s what I`d expect people to do. Sam (Byram) came on and so did Dominic (Poleon) and you`re looking for lads like them to make an impact."

McDermott will make one enforced change for the trip to Blackpool with Luke Murphy out after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the draw with Barnsley on Saturday.

Fellow midfielder Alex Mowatt is currently one booking away from a one-match suspension and he has looked tired in recent games.

McDermott could throw Michael Tonge or Michael Brown back into the side after the pair has been amongst the substitutes for the past few months.

El Hadji Diouf is also back in the squad following his absence. Diouf was names amongst the substitutes on Saturday having not featured since the defeat at Derby County in early October.

Sam Byram is also waiting for an opportunity. The clubs player of the year last season has made just nine appearances so far this season and with Marius Zaliukas struggling after picking up a knock against Barnsley, Byram could be back in the side if he fails to recover in time.
