LUFC Leeds in for Max?

Reports today suggest that Leeds United are ready to make a move for former winger Max Gradel when the January transfer window opens.

Gradel left Leeds to join French top-flight side St Etienne in the summer of 2011after two-years at Elland Road.

The 26-year-old was an instant hit with the Leeds faithful when he arrived initially on loan from Leicester City in October 2009. After impressing in his initial loan spell, he signed a two-and-a-half year deal the following January and he went on to make 35 appearances as Leeds clinched promotion from League One.

In Leeds first season in the championship, he was a key member of the side and he finished the season with 18 goals.

He left Leeds in August 2011, citing family reasons for his move to France. The Ivory Coast international was a regular in the side at St Etienne in his first two seasons with the club but he has found a regular place in the side this season hard to come by, making just 6 appearances so far this season.

With Leeds on the verge of a proposed major investment, with club managing director David Haigh behind a consortium looking to buy a 75% stake in the club, Gradel could be the main target for manager Brian McDermott in January.

Leeds have been desperate for pace in the side since Gradel departed the club and McDermott could see Gradel as the man to help Leeds make a sustained challenge for promotion in the second half of the season having led them to a play-off place so far this season.
