McDermott hoping win will kick start Leeds season

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott feels the win over Birmingham City could kick start the season.

The whites went into the international break having won just two of their previous seven games in the championship.

Leeds returned to action after the international break with a 4-0 demolition of Birmingham at Elland Road and McDermott felt the international break came at a good time for his side.

"That is a starting point for us," McDermott told Sky Sports.

" I thought the boys were really good. The international break came at a really good time and it gave us an opportunity to work on things.

"We have been working hard during the international break and we scored some good goals. We have been desperately been trying to find a way to play and get the ball out wide and I thought some of the performances were outstanding."

The game was all over a as a contest by half time as Leeds raced into a three goal lead thanks to goals from Ross McCormack, Rodolph Austin and Matt Smith.

The scoreline didn`t flatter Leeds who could have scored many more with McCormack twice being denied when one-on-one with the Birmingham goalkeeper.

The second half was much more sedate with the damage already done and Matt Smith capped a superb Leeds performance with a fourth goal. The win for Leeds lifts them up six places into ninth in the championship.
