LUFC McDermott ready to offer new deal to Mowatt

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott says he intends to speak to young midfielder Alex Mowatt about a new deal with the club.

The 18-year-old Leeds academy product signed his first professional deal with the club earlier this year when he signed a two-year deal and he has shown his capabilities since making his senior debut for the club this season.

With Premier League clubs already being reported in showing an interest in the young midfielder, McDermott intends to talk to the player and his representatives about a new deal.

"You`re constantly monitoring players` contracts," McDermott told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"Alex has got a year-and-a-half to go here but he`s done extremely well so we need to speak to him and his people.

"Everyone knows what I think of him and how well he`s done. He`s got real ability."

Mowatt made his Leeds debut in August when he started the Capital One League Cup tie at his hometown club Doncaster Rovers.

After impressing on his debut, he started the next round tie at Premier League Newcastle United, not looking out of place against top-flight opposition. That performance saw him rewarded with his first championship start in Leeds next game at Millwall and he has started the two games since, continuing to impress.
