International round-up: Brazil hopes end for Rudi

International round-up: Brazil hopes end for Rudi

Vital Leeds United looks at how the players did on international duty this week.

Rodolph Austin played the 90 minutes for Jamaica as their slim hopes of qualifying for the World Cup finals in Brazil next year were finally ended with a 2-0 defeat to the USA in Kansas City.

Jamaica matched their hosts until the final thirteen minutes before America scored twice in four minutes to ensure they finish at the top of the group.

The defeat for Jamaica was their fifth in their seven group games and they finish with a home game against Honduras on Tuesday night.

Paul Green was an unused substitute for Republic of Ireland as they went down to a 3-0 defeat in Germany.

The win for Germany secured qualification for the finals with one game to go. Ireland finish their group games with a home game against Kazakhstan on Tuesday night, with them out of the running for qualification after a third defeat in a row.

Ross McCormack is currently away with the Scotland squad. Scotland were not in action on Friday night and they finish off their group games with a home game against Croatia on Tuesday night.

Young goalkeeper Eric Grimes kept a clean sheet as he helped the Republic of Ireland under-19 side start their bid for next year`s championship finals with a 2-0 win over Azerbaijan.

Ireland are in Sweden for three games in five days starting with the Azerbaijan win on Thursday. They face hosts Sweden on Saturday before finishing their group with a game against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday. A top two finish will ensure they progress to the next round of qualifying next spring.

Vital Leeds will catch-up with how all four players did on Wednesday when the qualification groups will end.
