LUFC Tonge targeting top six finish

Leeds United midfielder Michael Tonge says they are still looking at a top six finish despite a recent run of poor results.

Leeds have lost four of their last five championship games to drop into the bottom half of the table but Tonge feels a couple of good results can quickly turn their season.

"I think the top six is a target," Tonge told the official website .

"I think that the teams we have played so far have shown us nothing to fear.

"It is the usual story in the Championship, if you can put a run together you can get up there.

"If you have a good week in the Championship and win three games you are right in amongst the Play-Offs.

"We are looking at it in a positive way and we just want to get back to putting some good performances in and results will come after that."

With the international break in full flow, Leeds have had time to regroup after their latest disappointment, the 3-1 defeat at Derby County in their last game.

The whites are next in action in front of the live Sky TV cameras when Birmingham City visit Elland Road on Sunday October 20th and Leeds boss Brian McDermott knows he must strengthen his team in attack.

McDermott is hoping to bring in a striker ahead of the Birmingham game with Manchester United youngster Will Keane being linked with a move to Elland Road.

Leeds have scored just ten times so far this season in the championship with only Bolton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic and Yeovil Town having a worse return in front of goal and if they are to stand any chance of climbing the table then they must bolster their attacking options.

Okay MT this rallying call I take with a fistful of sand. My vision here is that ER is too big for certain players even though they say it is "a huge challenge and I love it". A good old fashion type of players here like Strachan, Jones and Chapman are needed more than ever. I just hate to read these messages when absolutely everything (v Derby) has gone in a bad ways. But still I believe in McD skills to turn this around. Tare
