LUFC McDermott - We need a winning mentality

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott says his side need to find a winning mentality after another disappointing defeat at Derby County.

Leeds went down to a 3-1 defeat at Pride Park as the whites failed to turn possession into goals.

Talking on BBC Sport, McDermott said, 'You are disappointed when you lose the first goal, which we have done too many times this season.

'In the last two games we have let ourselves down away from home but before I turned up here I think we had 21 games away from home and won one.

'We need to get a mentality away from home where we are very difficult to play against and we weren't today.

'We played a lot of football today in the middle of the pitch but you are judged on what you do in both boxes and we weren't good enough there.

'We need a winning mentality. When I was at Reading two years ago when we hardly had any points on the board after 10 games and we just clicked into place and we worked on that.'

After a fairly even start, Leeds were undone twice in the space of three minutes. Poor defending cost Leeds dearly as Chris Martin and then Johnny Russell found time and space to score.

Leeds were given a lifeline on the stroke of half time when Jason Pearce headed his first goal for the club.

You would have expected the goal to inspire Leeds in the second half but they failed to trouble the Derby goal and the result was put beyond doubt when Will Hughes eased past Jason Pearce before scoring.

The defeat at Derby was a fifth defeat in seven for Leeds in the championship as they continue to slide down the table and the first time they had conceded three goals since Brian McDermott arrived in April.

Leeds now have two weeks to prepare for the Birmingham City game with the international break taking place.

I am fed up of hearing in going on about his time at Reading and what they did. Unfortunately Brian, you have a mediocre squad that do not have the ability to do what Reading did.
No Brian we don't need a winning mentality, we need a new manager although you promised much when you took over, you are a waste of space please explain why Diouf isn't playing? He was our best player by a mile last year I think it is disrespectful of you for one wanting rid of him in the summer like I read so many times, and 2 not playing him when we need his class, we have no other player like him, we have now won just once in how many games now at home and away so the winning mentality on the road? Ok pull the other one? And can you tell me again in what game have we looked a good side this season? I think none we have scraped too many wins after going behind and not playing well , We are Leeds and we deserve better we are just not good enough the only positive thing I have seen from you Is giving our youngsters a chance this I believe in but when we haven't had 2 real wingers in our side since our first season back in the championship why has no manager since Grayson whom shouldn't of been sacked in the first place the only reason he did is cos he knew this and told Bates what he thought n stood into him after selling gradel in my opinion , why haven't his predecessors tried to resolve this Warnock tried but Townsend n then Thomas both didn't wanna play for us cos we are a poor side , the difference Thomas especially made and that's just one winger in the team , I'm fed up of been short changed, we are gonna get relegated if we don't improve and wingers will make the difference full stop tbh couldn't care who but we need some wingers stop filling us with rubbish and sort it out!

The problem is GFH they didnt back him properly in the summer meaning we are stuck with this crap squad.. look if GFH hadnt insisted on a 1 out 1 in basis we would be doing a lot better now.. if some of those targets that were missed because they were too much had actually been gotten we wouldnt be in this situation.. we know its a 3 year mission but the main mission surely is to stay in this league.. Brian will do the biz if backed im sure, all the waffle now is just trying to keep fans onside till january.. if you read between the lines it seems likely to me that brian told em what was needed, they faultered due to funding and keeping books straight, now those mistakes are coming back to haunt them but it has taught them a good lesson.. your manager knows what he is talking about, back him or suffer the consequences..
