LUFC International Round-Up - Austin Sent Off

Vital Leeds United looks how Leeds players did in their international games.

Ross McCormack - Scotland

McCormack came off the bench on 86 minutes for Scotland as they lost 2-0 at home to Belgium in their World Cup qualifier.

The appearance for the striker was his first for Scotland boss Gordon Strachan and his ninth cap for his country since making his debut in 2008.

McCormack will now travel to Macedonia with the squad ahead of their game on September 10th.

Paul Green - Republic of Ireland
The midfielder played no part for Ireland as their World Cup qualifying hopes were dealt a blow with a 2-1 home defeat to Sweden.

Former Leeds striker Robbie Keane had fired Ireland ahead for his 60th international goal.

The defeat for Ireland leaves them three points behind second placed Sweden and they must now win in Austria on Tuesday night to keep their hopes of qualifying for the finals in Brazil alive.

Rodolph Austin - Jamaica
Austin was sent off for Jamaica in the 58th minute as Jamaica drew 0-0 in Panama in a game played in torrential rain.

The tough tackling midfielder picked up two yellow cards and he will now miss their crucial qualifier at home to group leaders Costa Rica on Tuesday night.

Jamaica remain bottom of their group, four points behind Panama in fifth place. A fifth place finish will be enough to secure a play-off place for the World Cup finals but they have just three games remaining.

Chris Dawson - Wales under-21
The Leeds midfielder was not in the 18-man squad as Wales suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at minnows San Marino in their latest European 2015 qualifier.

It was a first ever win for San Marino at under-21 level, and it leaves Wales in fifth place in a group that also involves England.

Dawson travels with the squad for their game in Moldova on Tuesday.

Eric Grimes - Republic of Ireland under-19
The Ireland under-19 squad faced Slovenia in a double header in Waterford this week. Grimes played no part on Tuesday, as they were beaten 3-0.

Grimes played the 90 minutes on Thursday and he kept a clean sheet as Ireland won the second game 2-0.

The young Leeds goalkeeper will now hope to be part of the squad as they face three European under-19 championship qualifiers in October.

Elsewhere, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, who had a short loan spell at Leeds in January made his senior England debut as they beat Moldova 4-0 at Wembley.

Austins sending off is good for us. He will now be able to come back and prepare properly for the Bolton game rather than getting back 24 hours before the game. Green and McCormack could start next week. Whelan is injured for Ireland and there are quite a few out for Scotland.

I love Austin's commitment but he is a red card waiting to happen with how he goes in sometimes.
