LUFC Smith looking to get on a roll

LUFC Smith looking to get on a roll

New Leeds United striker Matt Smith says he isn`t getting carried away after a good start to pre-season.

Smith, who was Brian McDermott`s first signing of the summer from Oldham Athletic has netted three times in three games so far in pre-season and whilst he says he is not getting carried away, it is great for his confidence ahead of his first season at Elland Road.

'Pre-season is pre-season and I'm not making too much of scoring goals," Smith told the official website .
.
'But I can't deny that it's nice to get a few goals under my belt.

'Fitness aside, it's the feeling of confidence that matters more than anything else. You get five or six weeks away in the summer after 10 months of really intense football and it's nice to know that you still know where the goal is.

'I believe in myself and there's no problem there but you have to dust off the cobwebs a bit. It's good to get on a bit of a roll.'

The 24-year-old will be looking to make up for lost time having come into the professional game late, preferring to go to university first.

His time at Oldham, his first professional club, saw him mainly used from the substitutes bench but he made national headlines last season scoring in all three games for Oldham against Liverpool and then Everton in the FA Cup.

Smith is likely to start Leeds final pre-season game in Slovenia against Hungarian side Ferencvaros on Tuesday night after only playing 30 minutes in the game against FC Domzale on Saturday.
