Thames Valley Whites are out in force on Leeds pre-season tour of Slovenia and Steve Griffin is keeping us up to date with all that is going on.
On Thursday, around 20 members of the TVW gathered together at Luton Airport for the anticipated flights out to Slovenia but first, in the branches typical fashion, there was the beer to sample in the departure lounges. Keeping with tradition there was still members of the branch who missed the meeting time and arrived late.
Soon we was boarding the 4pm flight with around another 30 or so other Leeds fans for the uneventful 2 hour trip to the capital Ljubljana. Taking two mini buses, we soon arrived at our hotel where we quickly dropped our bags in our rooms and met up in the hotel bar. Litre bottles of beer were soon flowing for a reasonable 2.50 euros before taxis were ordered to take us into the old town district.
The Cutty Sark pub was our first and only stop at what could be described as an open area street with restaurants and other pubs. The area proved to be popular, full of Leeds fans all soaking up the relaxed atmosphere of the warm evening. Again, the local beer was around 2.50 euros.
As the evening wore on, more and more Leeds arrived in the area and it was only a matter of time before the songs started and the younger element started bouncing around to 'We are the champions, champions of Europe`.
As midnight came and went we oldies started to head back to our hotels as we expected the local Polizia to arrive, probably more out of curiosity from the noise emitting from this street now fully packed with Leeds fans.
Friday daytime most of us spent our time at the pool sun bathing and drinking and as I write this, we are now all preparing to explore further more of the nightlife and bars of Ljubljana. The old town is going to be packed out, as even more fans arrive into this capital city.
Leeds are in town and again out in numbers, expectations are there will be over 1000 fans for the game on Saturday.
On the Vital Leeds forum there is a picture of one Thames Valley White member showing his colours on the flight out.
