LUFC On This Day - July 12th

A look back at what happened on July 12th in recent history at Leeds United.

Birthdays

1944 Terry Cooper (69)
1994 Ross Killock (19)
2007
Chelsea pinch another Leeds youngster. A year after stealing Tom Taiwo and Martin Woods. This time Ben Gordon goes where the grass is supposedly greener.
All three of them are now doing exactly……………

2009
Leeds start their pre-season programme with their regular trip to York City. The game finishes 3-3.

York took an early lead before Luciano Becchio equalised for Leeds. Second half goals from youngsters Mike Whitwell and Andrew Milne put Leeds 3-1 ahead. York scored twice in injury time to earn a draw.

2010
Richard Naylor is to continue as club captain for the 2010/11 season. Leeds boss Simon Grayson confirms that the experienced central defender will lead Leeds in their first season back in the championship.

2012
Former Leeds United striker Andy Gray is training with the club after being released by Barnsley at the end of last season.

Gray started his career at Elland Road having come through the clubs academy and he made his first team debut in January 1996 at just 18.

The striker was reportedly close to signing for another of his former clubs Bradford City, who are managed by Phil Parkinson, who was Gray`s manager at Charlton.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock managed Gray at Sheffield United, where he scored 28 goals in 65 games and Warnock says he is to look at the striker after the players reported back for pre-season training on Wednesday.

Speaking about Gray in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Warnock said, 'Andy asked if he could come and train with us and we have allowed him to do that. We will take a look at him and see how it goes.'
