'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC On This Day - July 2nd

A look back at what happened on this day July 2nd in the history of Leeds United.

Leeds have never played a game on this day in their history, so today we look back in the Vital Leeds archives of the last few years to see what was being reported.

2007

With the club in administration, the official website announces that the club, after a meeting with the Inland Revenue, will pay the clubs creditors 8p in the 1 after initially offering just 1p in the 1.

As part of the agreement, it is also agreed that Leeds will pay a further 30p in the 1 if Leeds regain their Premier League place within ten years after the initial five-year proposal from the club was turned down.

It now looks like a formality that a consortium led by Ken Bates will be taking over the club in the next few days.

2009

Leeds players return to training on this day. Jermaine Beckford takes part after recently being placed on the transfer list after turning down the offer of a new contract.

2010

Simon Grayson says he is trying to add to his squad before they leave for their pre-season tour of Slovakia. Speaking on the official website, he said, 'We'd like to have someone else in before we go to Slovakia.
'It gives them that seven days

2012

Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman says that reports linking the club with Leeds United striker Ross McCormack are a little 'far-fetched`.

Reports surfaced last week that Freedman was in talks with the Leeds striker who has turned down the offer of a new deal at Elland Road.

Whilst Freedman was quick to play down the links with McCormack, he admitted that he is a player he admires. Speaking in Croydon Today , Freedman said, 'Ross is a fantastic player and I do know him quite well.

'But it might be a little far-fetched to suggest anything.'
