LUFC On This Day - June 28th

A look back at what happened on this day June 28th in the history of Leeds United.

Leeds have never played a game on this day in their history, so today we look back in the Vital Leeds archives of the last few years to see what was being reported.

2009
Sky Sports News reported that Northern Ireland and Cardiff Striker Warren Feeney is to undergo a medical on Monday 29th of June before signing on July 1st when the transfer window opens.

At the moment Feeney is under contract at Cardiff but has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Swansea and Dundee United where he scored 11 goals in 32 games.

With the impending departure of Leeds top goalscorer Jermaine Beckford, Simon Grayson is looking for at least 1 striker this summer to fill the void as Enoch Showunmi comes back from his long spell out.

2010
Leeds United have been chosen for another live TV game in the early stages of the season.

Last week Leeds opening two league fixtures against Derby and Nottingham Forest were chosen for live coverage and now the Yorkshire derby at Doncaster Rovers as been added to the list.

The game, which was originally scheduled for Saturday September 18th, will now take place a day earlier on the Friday night with a 7.45pm kick off and will be shown on Sky TV.

2011
Leeds fans continue to be messed around after another game was moved.

Leeds final championship game of the season at Cardiff will now kick off at 12.30pm on Saturday April 21st.

It is the fifth game already this season to be moved for either live TV or on Police advice.

Leeds now face three of their longest trips of the season at unsociable times.

The opening game of the season at Southampton will kick off at 5.20pm for live TV coverage.

The trip to Brighton will now be played on the Friday night instead of the Saturday on Police advice, meaning fans having to make the long trek to the south coast on a Friday afternoon.

Departed goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel wishes Leeds all the best for the new season and is hoping to see his former and new employees celebrate promotion together.

Schmeichel signed a three-year deal at the Walker Stadium on Monday after being told by Leeds last week that he was no longer part of their plans and had accepted an offer from Leicester.

The keeper was shocked by the news last week and he issued his own statement explaining his disappointment in Leeds decision to let him leave.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Schmeichel said, 'I didn`t see it coming, but that is football and you can`t take anything for granted in football. That is one thing I have learned.'

2012
Leeds United have had another game chosen by Sky TV for live coverage.

The trip to Millwall on Saturday November 17th will now take place on Sunday November 18th with a 1.15pm kick off.

The Millwall game joins the home game with Wolves (Saturday August 18th 12.45pm) and Sheffield Wednesday away (Friday October 19th 7.45pm) to be chosen by Sky TV for live coverage.
