'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Walton Is A Realist

United youngster Simon Walton wants regular first team football and says he did his chances of winning a place no harm with his performance against Leicester City

The 18-year-old is a realist though and accepts it still might not have been enough to guarantee his place in the team against Cardiff on Saturday.

Head Coach John Carver got his first look at Simon in a first team game and was left impressed, saying: 'He's only an 18-year-old but he's come in and done a man's job for us.

'I thought he did very well for us and didn't look out of place at any time.'

Walton now faces an anxious wait to see if he will be given another opportunity this week against Cardiff, but he was just over the moon to return to the team and give a good account of himself.

'I feel I did quite well and with the result going for us too I don't think it could have been any better for me,' said Simon.

'After ten minutes I did feel I had the old sea legs, but after that I eased my way back into things

'It has been frustrating but the team has been doing well and that's made it extra hard for me to get back in. I've had my chance and I would like to think I grabbed it with both hands and you never know what will happen next week.

'It's down to the manager now what happens, I know there are players to come back into the team and it would be naive of me to think I will be straight in this week.

'It was just good to get out there and get a game again.'
