LUFC McDermott frustrated by lack of funds

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott says he is frustrated by the lack of players coming into the club so far this summer and he admits, he may have to sell before he can bring players in.

The players returned for pre-season training at Thorp Arch today ahead of the new signing with just striker Matt Smith having arrived so far this summer from Oldham Athletic.

McDermott expressed a desire to have his summer targets in ahead of pre-season training and he admits it was not what he was expecting.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, McDermott said, "There is a possibility that we will have to do deals going out of the club to be able to bring players into the club.

"At this stage, it wasn`t what I was expecting. It is frustrating because you want to bring in the targets that you have. I am not saying it won`t happen but we have to do what we have to do."

It seems a case of déjà vu at Elland Road. Since Leeds return to the championship the fans have seen a host of good players leave the club and to be replaced by mediocre journeymen usually on free transfers.

Jermaine Beckford, Bradley Johnson, Max Gradel, Jonny Howson, Luciano Becchio and Robert Snodgrass have all departed the club since their promotion in 2010 and it seems that Sam Byram is likely to be the next on the ever-growing list as McDermott needs to raise funds.

It seems the new club owners GFH Capital are looking for the same pot to urinate in that the previous chairman did.
