LUFC On This Day - 21st June
A look back at what happened on this day June 21st in the history of Leeds United.
Leeds have never played a game on this day in their history, so today we look back in the Vital Leeds archives of the last few years to see what was being reported.
Leeds United manager Dennis Wise has been speaking of his frustration at having his hands currently tied in the summer transfer window. With the CVA results being subject to the Football League`s own investigation, the club are currently unable to enter the transfer market, meaning Wise currently has to sit patiently. Whilst Wise, assistant boss Gus Poyet and 'new' owner Ken Bates have started discussions with players, no firm moves in or indeed out of Elland Road can be made until the start of July.
Wise told the official Leeds United website: 'There's no harm in talking to people, but we'll just have to wait,'
He added: 'There's a lot of players we earmarked who've gone, about 10 of them, but we understand the situation so we're not going to harp on about it. We're here to do a job.'
The start of pre-season training is just 10 days away now, so any potential new signings will have to learn very quickly and adapt to life at the club. Let`s just hope that when the Ok comes down from the Football League, that the management, backroom and most importantly boardroom staff are ready to rise to the challenge of bringing quality to the club within an ever shortening timescale.
Barry Fry has been 'blasted` by Millwall`s fans representative over his comments that suggest early kick-off times for the Lions and the Whites are to save Peterborough.
Both Millwall and Leeds have seen their match times for the away trips, as well as newcomers to League One Leicester City, with the Posh supremo believing that there is something worth saving in Peterborough, and that the 3 clubs in question have a 'reputation` that warrants these sanctions.
Mr Fry, who I to be fair, usually like, said:
'We want to protect the city of Peterborough. Leeds, Leicester and Millwall fans have a reputation, and we want to give them less time in the pubs before kick-off.'
Leeds Carling Cup first round clash at Elland Road against Lincoln City has been confirmed as Tuesday 10th August with a 7.45pm kick off.
The Carling Cup clash between Leeds United and Bradford City has been chosen for live TV Coverage.
The game at Elland Road on Tuesday August 9th will see the West Yorkshire neighbours meet for the first time since a Johnstone`s Paint Trophy clash in 2008.
Leeds United manager Simon Grayson says the club have already agreed a deal to bring in a goalkeeper even before the sale of Schmeichel was agreed.
Leeds currently have no recognised goalkeeper in the squad for next season after releasing Alan Martin and Shane Higgs and agreeing to sell Kasper Schmeichel to Leicester City on Monday.
Grayson trying to calm the unrest amongst Leeds supporters admits that the club have already agreed to sign one goalkeeper and are on the lookout for another.
Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Grayson said, 'A week or so ago, before all this with Kasper, we agreed a deal, subject to a medical, with a goalkeeper who will come in, but we will be looking for another as well.'
