LUFC On This Day - 18th June
A look back at what happened on this day June 18th in the history of Leeds United.
Leeds have never played a game on this day in their history, so today we look back in the Vital Leeds archives of the last few years to see what was being reported.
1962 Andy Linighan (51)
Leeds United midfielder Scott Gardner has signed a one-year contract with the club as he looks to make an impression on Dennis Wise ahead of Leeds` first ever season in League One.
The 19 year old, who is yet to actually feature in the first team, told Yorkshire Radio:
'It's a massive weight off my shoulders.'
'I think I've improved. I was performing steadily at the start of the season, then came into the reserves and did okay.'
Ex-Leeds United goalkeeper Neil Sullivan and 19-year-old defender Sam Hird have signed for Doncaster Rovers.
Both Sully and Hird were released by boss Dennis Wise as the club began an administration clearout, poorly disguised as re-structuring for the foray into the weird and wonderful world of League One football.
Leeds United boss Simon Grayson has said that the club have received interest in three of the four players he told at the end of last season to look for a new club.
Grayson told Alan Sheehan, Andy Robinson, Lubomir Michalik and Tresor Kandol they had no future at the club after their promotion at the end of last season and to actively look for a new club during the summer months.
Leeds have received enquiries about Sheehan, Robinson and Michalik so far.
Speaking on the official website, Grayson said, 'There's been one or two enquires.
'We've had a bit of interest in all of them really so we'll just wait and see what the right options are for the players and for us as well.'
The fixtures are released by the Football League and Leeds will start with a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Leeds United have announced that their Capital One League Cup First Round tie against Shrewsbury Town will be played on the Saturday prior to the Championship season kicking off.
