Peterborough United chairman Barry Fry says Leeds United cannot afford Posh winger Tommy Rowe.
Rowe has been placed on the transfer list after turning down the offer of a new deal with the League One side and Fry says Leeds boss Brian McDermott as well as chairman Ken Bates and chief executive Shaun Harvey have been in contact about the 24-year-old.
It is reported that Rowe wants a return to the north of England but Fry says Leeds cannot afford the player.
Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph , "I`ve had Brian McDermott on the phone about Tommy and I`ve also spoken to their chairman Ken Bates and their chief executive Shaun Harvey, but Leeds just don`t have enough money.
"We`re sorry to be losing Tommy, but he`s made it clear to us that we could offer him £20,000 per week and he still wouldn`t sign a new deal."
McDermott made his first signing for Leeds earlier this week when he brought in Oldham Athletic striker Matt Smith on a free transfer.
