'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Newell plays down job links

Luton Boss Mike Newell has played down reports linking him to the vacant jobs at Leeds and West Brom by telling the Birmingham Mail: 'It's just speculation. I signed a four-year contract in the summer and I'm happy here.

'I can't help people linking me with jobs elsewhere but there has been no contact with West Brom, or Leeds, or anyone else.

'I made a commitment here and that's what I'm doing. But I'm not here for life and things can change very quickly - we all know the game is so fickle that in five or six weeks people might be shouting for my head.

'I know Bryan Robson was popular with the players so it was a bit of a shock to hear about it.'
