LUFC McDermott looking forward to task ahead

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott says he is looking forward to the task of returning Leeds to the top flight.

McDermott, who took charge of his fifth game at Watford on Saturday since taking over from Neil Warnock last month, says it is not just about building a team. "It is a great football club, McDermott told Yorkshire Radio.

"It is not just about building a team. We need to build this club inch by inch to do exactly what we need to do to get this club where we want to be and I am really looking forward to it."

The win at Watford on Saturday made it three wins from his five games since taking over and the fans have already seen his change in direction in the playing style of the players, with McDermott encouraging them to pass the ball more, something that bypassed Warnock.

The new Leeds boss as already announced his released list, with ten players being told they are surplus to requirements and there are sure to be a few more on their way out of Elland Road over the summer.

McDermott will now hope he can deliver the same success he had at previous club Reading. He led Reading to the championship title in 2011/12 before some would say he was rather unfortunate to be shown the door at the Madejski Stadium in February.

The new Leeds boss now faces the task of returning Leeds to the top flight of English football for what will be ten years by the end of next season.
