'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC Former defender back in English football

Former Leeds United defender Federico Bessone is back in English football after joining League One side Oldham Athletic for the remainder of the season.

Bessone made eight appearances for Leeds in the 2010/11 season after joining from Swansea City.

The Argentinian turned down a new deal with Swansea to sign for Leeds but after starting the season as a regular in the side, he was dropped after a run of poor performances, culminating in the 5-2 defeat at Barnsley.

Bessone never featured for Leeds again and he spent the second half of that season on loan at Charlton Athletic.

He left Leeds in the summer of 2011 after the club cancelled his contract by mutual consent and despite a poor season with Leeds, former club Swansea City, who had won promotion to the Premier League, signed him.

He made just two appearances for Swansea before leaving last summer to sign for League One side Swindon Town on a short-term deal. Bessone made just six appearances for Swindon before being released in January. He has recently been training with Spanish club Espanyol, where he started his career.

Oldham are currently just outside the relegation zone and have recently sacked former Leeds striker Paul Dickov, just weeks after dumping Premier League side Liverpool out of the FA Cup and holding their near neighbours Everton to a draw in the next round.

Bessone is now awaiting international clearance before he makes his Oldham debut so he will miss the chance to feature against his former club Swindon today.
