LUFC Leeds to assess Varney injury

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock says they will assess the injury sustained by Luke Varney in the win over Millwall at the weekend.

Varney left the pitch on a stretcher in the final moments of the game after being on the receiving end of a tackle by teammate Stephen Warnock.

Warnock says the player had ice packs on both legs in the dressing room after the game and they will assess the injury on Monday ahead of the game on Tuesday at Leicester. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said, "He has ice packs on both legs. There is nothing broken, so we will have to hope the swelling goes down and we will have a look on Monday and hope he is ok for Tuesday."

Varney will be desperate to be fit for the game against his hometown club and the team he supports.

The 30-year-old is enjoying his best run in the side since joining from Portsmouth in the summer. After criticism from sections of the crowd in the first half of the season, Varney has been a key player since his return to the starting eleven against Birmingham City in the FA Cup in January. Varney has started the last ten games and he has worked hard in an unaccustomed wide role for the side.

If Varney fails to recover in time it will most likely mean a recall for El Hadji Diouf, who has started just one of the last five games.
