LUFC Warnock - Cardiff got out of prison

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock bemoaned his sides luck after losing to Cardiff City at Elland Road.

Cardiff won thanks to a solitary goal from Frazier Campbell, just three minutes after coming on for his debut after signing from Sunderland in midweek.

The goal came after a rare mistake from the usually reliable Sam Byram in the Leeds defence, when his hacked clearance fell at the feet of Craig Bellamy and his shot was turned in by Campbell.

Leeds had created the best chances with Ross Barkley missing the easiest chance when he shot straight at the legs of David Marshall in the first half with the goal at his mercy.

Tom Lees then headed straight at Marshall shortly after Cardiff had taken the lead, when either side of the goalkeeper it looked a certain goal.

The win for Cardiff put them ten points clear at the top of the championship and Warnock says that is why they are top of the league.

Speaking on the Football League Show, Warnock said, "That is why they are top of the league. The got a winner and got out of prison.

"We missed one or two great chances. Young Ross missed a great chance in the first half and there was the Lees header."

Warnock also felt let down by the officials after Leeds had two penalty appeals turned down in the closing moments and he was particularly upset after Mark Hudson handled the ball in the area.

The Leeds boss felt Premier League official Mike Dean was poorly positioned and he received little help from his assistant. "We had a certain penalty turned down. Mark Hudson handballs it and the referee is in a poor position.

"He should be in a better position than that. The one decision we needed from the referee and his linesman this afternoon was someone to see the handball. They know they have got away with murder."

Despite the defeat, Leeds are still six points outside the play-off places, with two difficult away games on the horizon at Wolves and Middlesbrough.

Leeds have won just three games away from home this season and must improve if they are to have any chance of reaching the play-offs.

Warnock will be hoping to have new signing Steve Morison available for the trip to Wolves next Saturday as he was forced to watch the game on Saturday from the stands with a thigh injury.

Fellow new signing Stephen Warnock will also be pushing for a start after he was an unused substitute against Cardiff.
