LUFC In-form McCormack earns Scotland call

LUFC In-form McCormack earns Scotland call

Ross McCormack has been recalled by Scotland for their friendly with Estonia next week.

The striker has been included in the first squad named by former Leeds midfielder Gordon Strachan who recently took over the reins at Scotland boss.

McCormack has netted in each of his last three games for Leeds after struggling to regain his place in the side after two months out through injury.

The 26-year-old has made 8 appearances for the national side since making his debut against Czech Republic in May 2008.

He has endured a stop/start international career since his debut. It was almost ten months before he made his next international appearances in the World Cup qualifiers against Holland and Iceland and he scored his first international goal in the win over Iceland.

After signing for Leeds in the summer of 2009, his domestic form suffered and after playing against Norway and Wales in heavy defeats, he had to wait until the end of the season before his next call-up for the nation`s cup games with Republic of Ireland and Wales.

Despite scoring 19 goals for Leeds last season, he failed to make any of the Scotland squads named by Craig Levein.

He had to wait until the opening week of this season for his next Scotland call when he was called up for the friendly with Australia.

McCormack came on as a late substitute and impressed as he scored his second international goal with a well-taken strike.

An injury for Leeds in the game at Cardiff City in September saw him sidelined for two months, missing the autumn internationals.

McCormack becomes the fourth Leeds player to be involved on international duty next week with Chris Dawson (Wales under 21), Tom Lees (England under 21) and Rodolph Austin (Jamaica) all receiving call-ups.

The game against Estonia will be played at Aberdeen`s Pittordire Stadium on Wednesday February 6th (7.45pm).
