LUFC Warnock - Priorities lie in attacking players

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock says he allowed defender Alan Tate return to Swansea City as attacking options are his main priority in what is left of the January transfer window.

Tate returned to Swansea on Tuesday, one week before his loan spell was due to end and Warnock says he has enough cover in defence and his priorities lie in bringing in attacking options to the squad.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Warnock said, "He`s been a really big help for us, especially in the games after we first signed him, but I need to think about sorting out the attacking end of the squad before looking at anything else.

"That`s where my priorities lie and I felt it was important to have those players in place before adding to the defence. I don`t think we`re short of good defenders."

Tate made eleven appearances for Leeds after joining on loan towards the end of November.

His initial loan ended at the beginning of January but Leeds were quick to take it into a second month and Swansea boss Michael Laudrup indicated at the time that he expected Tate to spend the rest of the season at Elland Road.

Tate was left out of the squad for the FA Cup replay at Birmingham City last midweek after a poor team performance at Barnsley, as well as fellow centre back Jason Pearce.

Tom Lees and Lee Peltier played in the centre of defence at Birmingham and impressed enough to retain their places for the weekend`s game with Bristol City, when they once again impressed as the Leeds defence kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win.

With Tate unlikely to feature in the FA Cup tie with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, Leeds took the decision to allow him to return to the Liberty Stadium early, allowing Warnock to concentrate on bringing in the attacking options he craves.

Leeds continue to be linked with a number of attacking options.

Strikers Habib Habibou, Arune Dindane, Steve Morison, Kevin Doyle, Nakhi Wells and Dexter Blackstock are all being strongly linked with a move to Elland Road.
