Leeds United boss Neil Warnock says the squad is not good enough to win automatic promotion but he is not giving up on a play-off place.
Leeds are currently in eleventh place in the championship, nine points behind Leicester City in the final automatic promotion place and five points behind Watford in the final play-off place.
Speaking on SkySports.com , Warnock said, 'We're not good enough for automatic, let's not kid ourselves.
'We've just got to preserve, improve the squad, and give yourself the best chance we can to get in the play-offs. I still think anybody's capable of that in the top half of the division.'
Warnock is still desperate to improve the squad before the January transfer window closes in just over a week`s time.
The Leeds boss says he still wants two or three players to add to his current squad with pace in attacking options his main priority.
Warnock is keen to replace Jerome Thomas on the wing. Thomas joined Leeds on loan from West Brom in November and he helped Leeds pick up five wins in his seven games. Warnock was keen to bring the winger back on loan but a number of injuries at the Hawthorns have seen him back in first team action with the Premier League side.
The Leeds boss is also keen to add another striker to his squad and he still faces the dilemma of losing leading goalscorer Luciano Becchio before the window closes.
Becchio has netted 19 times this season and he has come to the attention of a number of clubs, with Warnock admitting he is having his head turned by his agent.
Warnock`s biggest problem on the pitch is sorting out the team`s dismal away form. Leeds have won just three times on the road this season and just Bolton Wanderers have won less games than Leeds on their travels.
Leeds have won just one of their last six away games, losing the other five, including an embarrassing performance last time out when they were beaten 2-0 at bottom of the table Barnsley.
The whites home form has improved dramatically this season having broken a club record last season, when they lost eleven home games in a season for the first time in their history.
Leeds have won six games in a row in the league at Elland Road for the first time in a season since the 2008/09 season.
Sides have needed a minimum of 75 points in the last two seasons to earn a play-off place, meaning Leeds will need 34 points from their last 18 games to stand a chance of finishing in the end of season lottery.
Leeds picked up just 23 points from their first 18 games of the season and they have picked up 24 points from their last 18 games.
