LUFC Gray -Cup Win important for Warnock

LUFC Gray -Cup Win important for Warnock

Leeds United legend Eddie Gray says victory over Birmingham City in today`s FA Cup tie at Elland Road could be beneficial to boss Neil Warnock as he looks to add to his squad in the January transfer window.

Warnock has so far added Ryan Hall on a permanent basis since the window opened and he has been promised cash by new owners GFH Capital, to help make a sustained push for promotion in the second half of the season.

Leeds have been lucky in the FA Cup in recent seasons with plenty of money spinning ties against Premier League sides and Gray says more money may be made available to Warnock, if Leeds progress and land another plum tie in the fourth round.

"Let us win the FA Cup tie against Birmingham," Gray told Yorkshire Radio.

"To get into the next round will be important to the club. If you get into the next round, you might land a big tie and that can be helpful to Neil Warnock to bring in that extra bit of quality because he will have more money in available to him."

In the past three seasons, Leeds have landed trips to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the 2009/10 season, as well as trips to Arsenal in each of the last two seasons in the competition.

Leeds took Tottenham to a replay at Elland Road in 2010, as well as Arsenal in the 2010/11 season.

All have been played in front of sell-out crowds and have also been shown live on TV, which have been worth over £100,000 to the club for each game.
