LUFC Leeds v Birmingham - Over The Years

Vital Leeds United looks at the head-to-head record between Leeds United and Birmingham City over the years at Elland Road.

The two sides have met on 45 occasions at Elland Road with Leeds winning 24, Birmingham 10 and 11 draws.

The first ever meeting between the two sides was a Second Division encounter during the 1920/21 season when a penalty from Jim Baker for Leeds was enough to beat the eventual championships of the division.

Birmingham won their first game at Elland Road by the same scoreline when they next met in a First Division encounter during the 1924/25 season.

More recently, Leeds have won seven of the last nine meetings although Birmingham have won the last two.

They have met once in the FA Cup previously at Elland Road when Leeds won a fifth round tie 3-2 thanks to goals from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (2) and Rod Wallace.

Leeds biggest win over Birmingham is 4-0 on two occasions during the 1972/73 season (Allan Clarke (2), Mick Jones & Peter Lorimer) and the 1986/87 season (Ian Baird (2), Keith Edwards & John Sheridan).

Birmingham enjoyed their biggest win at Elland Road last season.

Despite Leeds taking an early lead through Ross McCormack, Nikola Zigic scored four times for Birmingham in a 4-1 win for the visitors.

The defeat proved to be manager Simon Grayson`s last game in charge, with him being sacked by the club the following day.

The two sides have already met at Elland Road this season with Birmingham claiming all three points thanks to a long-range effort from Leroy Lita to give the visitors a 1-0 win.

In the 45 meetings, there is an average of 2.30 goals per game with Leeds scoring 68 and Birmingham 34.

Stat Attack
The two sides met on eight occasions between 1972/73 and 1980/81 with Birmingham failing to score in all eight games.
