'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC View from the opposition manager

Bolton Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman felt that his side deserved to take the three points against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Freedman and his Bolton side went back across the Pennines with nothing after Luciano Becchio netted the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

The former Leeds loan striker felt that his sides performance deserved the three points.

Speaking on the Bolton official website , Freedman said, "It was disappointing not to come away with the three points, as our performance merited the win.

"I thought it was a game of very few chances and a good number of those fell our way. Our energy levels were good but we just couldn't fashion that all-important goal.

"You`ve got to give credit to Leeds. They battled well and set themselves up to counter the threats we posed.

"I thought we were in control for the majority of the game, aside from a ten-minute period in which we conceded a needless penalty."

In a game of very few chances, Bolton had the best chances in open play.

Chris Eagles twice went close in the first half. He saw one effort shave the post and Paddy Kenny in the Leeds goal denied him with a good save.

Leeds rarely threatened before Becchio netted for Leeds halfway through the half.

Ross McCormack missed a good chance to double the Leeds lead and they were nearly made to pay late on in the game. Bolton substitute David Ngog blazed over when he should have done better and the referee then waved away penalty appeals when the same player was brought down in the area.

The win for Leeds, their fifth in a row at Elland Road, moved them back into eighth place in the championship just two points outside the play-off places.
