LUFC Tonge set for Leeds return

LUFC Tonge set for Leeds return

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock says he hopes to have a deal sorted to bring Michael Tonge back to Elland Road before the weekend.

Tonge has recently returned to parent club Stoke City after three months on loan at Elland Road and Warnock is hopeful that he can sort out a deal to have him back for the FA Cup tie with Birmingham City at the weekend.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Warnock said, "I don`t think we can do it for the Bolton game due to the administrative side of things.

"Straightaway would be great, but if we could get Michael signed up before the weekend, it would be a massive plus. We have done well with him in the team."

Tonge was a regular in the Leeds side during his three months with the club, making 22 appearances.

The midfielder has been left in the wilderness at Stoke City since signing for them in a £2 million deal from Sheffield United in 2008.

The 29-year-old has made just 18 appearances for Stoke in four seasons and he has already had spells away from the club at Preston North End, Derby County and Barnsley.

Tonge chipped in with five goals during his spell at Elland Road and he had moved into a central midfield role before returning to Stoke after Leeds game with Middlesbrough on December 22nd.

Warnock will also be hoping to sort out deals with on loan duo Alan Tate and Jerome Thomas who are due to return to their clubs after today`s game with Bolton Wanderers.
