'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC View from the opposition manager v Leeds

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy says the scoreline did not reflect the game after seeing his sides three match winning run come to an end with a 2-0 defeat at Leeds United.

Leeds won thanks to a goal in each half from Jerome Thomas and Paul Green and McCarthy felt that his side were on top when Green netted the second goal to secure the three points for Leeds.

Speaking on the Ipswich Town official website Ipswich Town official website, McCarthy said, "Anyone looking at that result in the paper in the morning with think it`s a routine win for Leeds but it certainly wasn`t that."

Leeds could have been out of sight in the first half, David Norris and Luciano Becchio both having excellent chances to add to the opener from Thomas.

Carlos Edwards had the best chance for the visitors in the first half but the diving Paddy Kenny in the Leeds goal kept out his effort on the stroke of half time.

Becchio came close to extending the lead early in the second half for Leeds when his header was kept out by the full stretch Stephen Henderson in the Ipswich goal.

Ipswich did start to take control of the game with Leeds struggling to clear their line.

With the visitors pressing for an equaliser, Leeds hit them with a classic counter attack with Paul Green side footing home after a sweeping move, with McCarthy admitting it was a terrific finish. "We played well and were on top in the second-half. Their fans were getting edgy, their bench was getting edgy but then they scored a quality second goal. It was a good ball in and a terrific finish."

Ipswich searched in vain for a goal to get them back into the game with Kenny denying them on two separate occasions, producing good saves to deny Michael Chopra and Lee Martin.

Despite the defeat for McCarthy, his side remain five points clear of the relegation places having won five of their nine games since he took over from Paul Jewell at the start of November with the side rooted to the foot of the Championship at the time.

Eh! sorry dont agree Ipswich were very poor the first half, we picked up loose balls and won nearly every 50/50 ball in the first half all with relative ease. Ip***** didn't seem up for it at all. They had a spell at the beginning of the second half but that was probably due to us taking our foot of the gas and not keeping hold of the ball enough. After we scored the second I didn't see Ip***** scoring at all never mind them getting owt out of the game. Credit to them though they did test Kenny a couple of times late on.
