LUFC Warnock - I have signed a leader

LUFC Warnock - I have signed a leader

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock feels he has signed a leader after bringing in defender Alan Tate on loan from Swansea City.

The former Swansea captain has joined Leeds until January, he can play anywhere across the back four and he has also played in midfield during his time at Swansea.

Tate captained the side to promotion to the Premier League in 2011 and Warnock says it is good to have a player coming to the club who can lead the side. Speaking on the Leeds United official website, Warnock said, "He is a leader and I felt these last few weeks we`ve lacked leaders. It is great to have him."

Tate has made over 300 appearances in ten years at Swansea City, helping the Welsh side to promotion to the Premier League having joined them when they were in League Two.

He initially joined them when they were facing a fight against relegation to the Blue Square Conference, when a final day win over Hull City maintained their place in the league.

After avoiding relegation to the non-league, Tate helped Swansea finish third in League Two in the 2004/05 season to win promotion to League One.

The following season, he helped them reach the League One play off final against Barnsley but it was his penalty miss that saw them lose out on penalties. The same season he helped them lift the Football League Trophy with a 2-1 win over Carlisle United.

He made 53 appearances for Swansea in the season and he was named the clubs player of the season.

After narrowly missing out on the play-offs the following season, Swansea went up as champions from League One in 2008.

Swansea just missed out on the play-offs in their first two seasons in the championship before winning the play-off final 4-2 against Reading at Wembley to book their place in the Premier League .

Tate made 48 appearances as he captained the side to promotion.

He started their first season in the Premier League in the side before a freak golfing accident saw him ruled out for six months.

Tate suffered a broken leg after his leg was trapped against a tree by a golf buggy.

He did not return to the side until March and he made just six appearances during the season.

This season he has made just four appearances under their new boss Michael Laudrup and he hasn`t played since starting against Everton on September 22nd.

Tate will go straight into the Leeds squad for their game with Crystal Palace this weekend but he is ineligible for the Capital One League Cup tie with Chelsea next month having already played in the competition this season.
