LUFC Leeds Fans View v Watford

Tiny T gives us his usual fans view from the game at Elland Road.

This time it is after a disastrous afternoon that saw Leeds lose 6-1 to Watford and finish the game with nine men after Jason Pearce was sent off and Rodolph Austin was carried off with a suspected broken leg.

Kenny 4
Poor decision making and he nearly caught out twice being too slow to clear. I thought he should have done better with at least two of the goals.

Green 5
Reasonable in an unfamiliar role. I did not understand why he went off after the red card for Pearce.

Pearce 5
Unlucky to get a red card. He won nearly everything in the air.

Peltier 4
Again, he was not at the races for most of the game.

Byram 6
Kept going to the end, strong running and a willing worker.

Austin 5
Unfortunately, it sounds like he will be out for a while with a bad injury, we will miss him.

Norris 6 Star man
Worked hard for the whole game, but those around him failed.

Tonge 2
Did nothing the whole afternoon except score the Penalty.

White 1
Missing in action yet again.

Diouf 3
He needs to work harder when the going gets tough.

Varney 5
Should have scored in the first half, but battled up front and he won the dodgy Penalty.

Subs
Lees 5

He struggled with the numbers coming towards him. He was not helped by Peltier going missing.

Brown 3
Usual card and thankfully he will be missing for the next game.
Hall 6
Lively and full of running, should start the next game.

Summary
A reasonable if poor quality first half by both sides, with us unlucky to be one down and Pearce being sent off.

Taking off Green mystified everyone as he had done ok in an unusual position for him.

The double substitution at half time was puzzling. Ok, bring on Hall to inject pace but Brown, who has no pace and can hardly get around the pitch, when we needed a forward on.

White and Tonge down the left was at best awful as neither got wide, tracked back and the opposition went past with ease.

After the injury to Austin, we were always going to struggle with only nine men and so it proved, though some of the defending was shambolic especially by the more experienced members of the side.

Tactically Warnock got it wrong playing 3-5-2 and with Green on the right of the defence it was weird but with White and Tonge on the left side of the field missing, the team was pulled all over to the other side, forcing Byram back and Green into the middle of the defence.

The introduction of Brown as a match changing substitution is difficult to understand. He offers little going forward or defensively. I was thankful the Referee booked him as it prevents him playing the next match.

Looking forward the Binmen next week. It is always difficult, but let us hope Warnock sees some sense and reverts to a more usual line-up, as now is not the time to experiment with a team lacking in belief.

If he thinks Becchio is not up to it at the moment perhaps we should give Gray a go.

Footnote, if Diouf wants a better contract than that offered to him, I suggest that he gets his head down, works harder, and uses his teammates. It is not the El Hadji show.
