LUFC Warnock - Good all round team performance

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock was pleased with a good all round team performance after defeating Southampton in the Capital One League Cup at Elland Road.

Leeds booked their place in the last eight with a comprehensive 3-0 win over their Premier League opposition.

The win was a great response following the disappointment of their first defeat in eight games against Birmingham City at the weekend and Warnock said it was hard to single out a player in the game. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said, "I thought from the very first minute it was a great team effort. I thought we knew what we were doing and we enjoyed it, we played with a smile on our faces.

"It was a good all round performance, I don`t think you could pick out a man of the match."

Leeds were set on their way just past the half hour when Michael Tonge scored from the edge of the area.

The goal was thoroughly deserved after a commanding first half performance.

A much changed Southampton side rarely threatened the Leeds goal and the game was wrapped up with minutes remaining. Rodolph Austin burst through the Southampton defence and his shot could only be parried into the path of El Hadji Diouf who made no mistake.

There was still time for a third when substitute Luciano Becchio scored from the penalty spot.
