Vital Leeds United contributor Tiny T gives us his usual fans view from the game at Elland Road.
This time after Leeds booked their place in the last eight of the Capital One League Cup with a 3-0 win over Southampton.
Ashdown 6
A very quiet night. I couldn't actually remember him making a save.
Byram 8
He was good at the back and going forward.
Lees 8
He gave away nothing.
Pearce 8
Like his partner, nothing got past.
Peltier 7
Solid and got forward well
White 7
A much better game than of recent.
Brown 7
Solid and broke up play well.
Austin 8 Star man
Strong in the tackle and his run for the second goal, they just bounced off him. Protected the defence well and got forward when allowed.
Tonge 7
Like the rest, didn't let the team down, scored the first.
Diouf 8
Good touch and he kept the opposition back line worried - They didn`t know where he would pop up next.
Varney 7
A much-improved performance, he should have had at least two. How did he put it past the far post from one yard? He also hit the bar.
Subs
Pugh
Becchio
Only touch was the penalty = 1 goal
Gray
None on long enough
Summary
Why can't we play like this all the time? We were strong inventive, closing down quickly moved the ball fast with players in support. It`s easy really!!!
They were possibly the worst team to have visited Elland Road this season.
We ran them ragged at times and with more composure in front of goal would have had the game sewn up by half time.
The only disappointment was the size of the crowd, the performance warranted more in the stands though that did not stop the very vocal support from those that attended.
Byram outside of the foot pass to Varney when moving cross-filed at pace was sublime. Diouf was all over the pitch but for me the dark destroyer was immense. Rodolph let nothing through and his passing and work rate stopped Southampton in their tracks, ably assisted across the middle by White, Tonge and Brown.
To sum it up, an excellent TEAM performance against a weak side.
Premiership you are having a laugh.
Looking forward, we need to take this result and performance into the game at Brighton on Friday night. I expect at least two changes with Kenny and Becchio returning to the side.
